This is sure to be a big one, folks… NXT takes the spotlight this evening with WWE NXT TakeOver: Portland! We’ve got arguably one of the biggest NXT cards ever about to go down here, including this very unique tag title match! After winning the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, the Broserweights challenge the long-incumbent Undisputed Era for the NXT Tag Team titles! And that my friends is just one of the big matches we’ve got on tap here this evening! I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer, ready to give you the full coverage of tonight’s event! NXT Tag Team Championships: The Undisputed Era (c) vs. The Broserweights
So Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne came out of nowhere as a tag team, pairing up quite randomly for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. They were an oddball duo, something that has been played upon more and more as the weeks have gone on. Just weeks ago, it felt like they surely had to be temporary, put together purely to fill a spot in a tournament at a time when NXT’s tag division had been made threadbare thanks to Raw and SmackDown’s raids. But now, it’s hard to imagine they won’t be a fixture for the rest of the year at the very least.
Somehow, some way, the Broserweights happened and it’s beautiful. They’re the perfect wacky dude and straight man combo and swiftly became one of NXT”s best and most beloved acts. They also happen to both be fantastic professional wrestlers who have quickly gelled in the ring together. The potential here is certainly stark. But the question is, are they gonna go ahead and take these titles tonight? It’s hard to imagine this was the plan initially. But like I said, NXT was in desperate need of new tag teams being formed and winning the gold tonight would sure cement them.
People would definitely be behind it. And there’s plenty of new match-ups they can still have for those belts down the line, assuming NXT UK continues sending guest stars over. I really do think it’d be the right move, so I’ll have the good faith that we’re doing it… Broserweights to take the titles.
