It is no secret that Dana White is a gambler. According to him, he is a successful one, as well. While the UFC president most regularly could be seen behind the blackjack tables in some of the prestigious casinos, he is not a stranger to live sports betting as well.
Dana White occasionally places live sports bets. However, he reveals that he is not a big fan of live betting. The reason – one bet cost him a million dollars at one point. He narrows his worst loss to one fight. A boxing match that made him think twice before making any live sports bets ever since.
Compulsive Gambler Dana White Reveals Which Bet Cost Him Most Money
Back in 2007, the UFC president, Dana White, gathered the courage and decided to place a huge bet on a boxing match. Finally, he made such a risk for the first time and placed a million dollars on the boxing match between Jermain Taylor and Kelly Pavlik.
Dana White was sure that Jermain Taylor would take the win quite easily. It was his fifth title defense, and the boxer looked invincible at the time. Or so did Dana White think.
Instead of defending his title for the fifth consecutive time, the boxer somehow ended up on the canvas – unconscious. The less experienced Kelly Pavlik managed to knock him out cold.
Dana White recently guessed at the Full Send Podcast and revealed that this was the fight that literally ruined his vacation that September. Instead of enjoying his time off in Cabo, the UFC president couldn’t take his mind off of the unexpected loss and his lost million dollars.
“The biggest sports bet? $1million. I lost. I f***ing hate betting on sports. Hate it, hate it.” – Dana White told the Nelk Boys. “Remember Jermain Taylor, the boxer? A Good-looking f***ing kid came up through the Olympics and married basketball player Erica Taylor. He fought that white kid from Ohio and I thought Jermain Taylor was going to kill him.”
“Jermain Taylor got destroyed. I was in Cabo Mexico, relaxing and having fun. That ruined my fun. Ruined my whole trip.” – Dana White laughingly said.
In the second round of the fight in question, Dana White had a moment when he thought he won. Pavlik dropped to the floor but got up before the count reached 10. He continued to fight and delivered a brilliant knockout in round seven.
Dana White spends a lot of time in casinos in Las Vegas. Finally, this is his only vice, and he doesn’t hide it. He reveals that he has won up to $7 million in one night on the blackjack tables. To prove his blackjack skills, the UFC president proudly claims that he is banned from several casinos after winning huge pots.
“Instead of just asking me to leave the way that they did, they gave me this title.” – Dana White spoke about his ban from the Palms casino. “Undisputed Blackjack champion. 24-0. However, this is a cool way to say get the f*** out of our casino and don’t come back.”
