It has been just a few weeks since Samoa Joe returned from a concussion sustained during a match on Monday Night RAW. That injury came just a few weeks after Joe had returned from a broken thumb. This time around, the injury occurred while Joe was shooting a commercial for WWE.
How Did A Commercial Injure Him?
During a WWE commercial shoot, Samoa Joe was to be put through a table. The stunt went poorly and lead to a nasty blow to the head of Joe. Sources indicate that this could put him out for a decent amount of time, but it is still fairly early.
Samoa Joe is currently involved in the top feud on Monday Night RAW, where he & Kevin Owens have been waging a war against Seth Rollins, Buddy Murphy, and Authors of Pain. Joe has been involved in this angle since the start, with Authors Of Pain attacking him during his stint on commentary.
Samoa Joe Is Injury Prone
Many fans lament the fact that Samoa Joe has not found much title success in WWE outside of NXT. He has challenged for the WWE & Universal Championships in the past, but failed to win the major matches. This is likely due to the combined injury history as well as his age. Samoa Joe is a well respected legend of wrestling, mainly for his pre-WWE career. But brutal matches like those against Necro Butcher & Kenta Kobashi put a serious toll on his body which is now catching up to him.
Thankfully for Samoa Joe, he has an easy backup plan within WWE. During his stint on commentary, he received great feedback from fans, fitting into the role perfectly. He has an incredible voice for commentary, and his career offers legitimacy to his words, much like Nigel McGuinness. Considering he is often compared to ECW Legend Tazz in the ring, it would be ironic for him to be placed into a commentary role much like Tazz.
It is unclear if this injury will ruin any plans for Samoa Joe at Wrestlemania, but these repeated injuries aren’t helping fans believe we will ever see him as WWE Champion. We hope to see a speedy recovery for Joe, and to see him facing off with The Monday Night Messiah and his goons at Wrestlemania like expected.
Do you think Samoa Joe should simply join commentary to avoid further injury, or does he have more matches in the tank? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
