WWE Monday Night Raw rages on. Beth Phoenix makes her way out now for the final segment of the show. She seems choked up already as she talks about how she’s here to give a medical update on her husband, Edge. Before she gets to say a single thing else though, out comes Randy Orton. He comes to the ring, face to face with her and seriously asks for a hug. She just stares him down. Instead he offers a handshake. Beth says, “You think I would hug you or shake your hand after what you did to my husband, you son of a bitch?!” Randy backs off as the crowd rises.
Randy Orton climbs up to the top rope and lets her go. Beth says she’s not surprised, she thought she’d see him tonight. And if anyone needs to hear this, it’s you. She is here as a wife because she needs her husband. She’s here as a mother because her children deserve their father. Maybe there are possibilities… but Orton leaps to the mat to cut her off and gets within RKO’ing distance. Chants of “RKO” start to intensify as he skulks away, grabs a mic.
Says there are no possibilities, it’s a certainty that after what he did to Edge that he will never wrestle again.
Says he wants to tell us a little story. In 1999 WWE had a little house show in St. Louis, where Orton happened to be from. Says his father took him to meet some road agents, Tony Garea and Blackjack Lanza, because he wanted to break into the business. Back then at 19 he was just a fan and to see all the stars, they were all there, but the one man who came up to his father to show his respects was Edge. Randy was beaming with pride as this happened, so proud to be his son. Says Edge told his father he was one of the best bad guys in the history of the business, one of the reasons he got into the industry. And when his dad told him that Randy wanted to be a wrestler, Edge looked him in the eye and told him quite sincerely, “Good luck, if you play your cards right, we might be working together in that ring”.
Years later, he became Intercontinental Champion and they fought for the gold, they became tag champs together… and then he soared a little too close to the sun, went into a hole so deep that he should’ve been buried in it. But Edge pulled him out of it. Let him know that there was more to life. Randy speaks about how he was able to raise his family because her husband Edge saved his life. Orton explains that what he did was save his life. Because at the Royal Rumble, the reception he got, he gets goosebumps thinking about it. But it wasn’t a one-off because the next night he realized that Edge thought he was back for good. Says Orton knew better.
Orton knew that somebody like him would put him in a wheelchair and he didn’t want that to happen.
So he took Edge out so that he’d be able to spend time with his children and live that happy life because he loves him and Beth and their children. But everyone thinks it’s Orton’s fault. Randy says no… it’s Beth’s fault. Calls her an enabler. Says Edge is a junkie for the roar of the crowd and you did nothing to stop him and he had to step in to make sure he could be her husband and be a father to Ruby and Lyric. Randy goes on to say that, when he says that out loud, he realizes something, he loves her two little girls and Edge more than Beth ever could. Quiet chant of “Bullsh*t”, most of the crowd just kinda seems stunned at this promo.
Beth slaps Orton. He drops the mic. Slowly, he turns to face her. He stares her down for an uncomfortably long time. Phoenix kicks her, he responds with an RKO! Randy makes his leave after dropping her. They get some shots of stunned faces. Commentators are stunned as they’re treating this pretty seriously. Beth’s getting treatment now, Natalya is there to look after her. Hawkins & Ryder, Rey, close friends of Edge.
