Former two-division UFC champion Daniel “DC” Cormier had an infamously tempestuous rivalry with Jon Jones, marred by Jones’ USADA violations. Cormier was baffled to find out that the current light heavyweight champ, Jiri Prochazka, has been tested sixteen times the amount that Jon Jones, who has already popped for PED use, in the past year. Cormier took to his YouTube channel to express his frustration.
“One of the reasons with Jon Jones was that he was gonna get to come back, but he was gonna be the most tested guy in USADA. They were gonna be on him. They were gonna make sure that he didn’t have picograms or any of that stuff. Where are his damn tests? I mean, why is he not the most tested? Why are you testing Jiri Prochazka more than you’re testing this guy who has a history of having these types of issues? That makes no sense.”
DC Demands Answers Over Jon Jones USADA Tests
We have a guy who has a history of drug abuse that got tested a third of the months of the year. That’s not fair. That’s not random.”
According to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency database, Jiri Prochazka, who recently vacated the UFC light heavyweight title due to a debilitating shoulder injury, has been tested 64 times this year. Jon Jones has only been tested four times. Prochazka has never tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs, unlike Jones, who has done so several times, and endured suspensions because of it.
Cormier may have a point. Jon Jones seems all but ready to make his long-awaited UFC heavyweight debut, and may be seeking chemical assistance in pursuit of the additional 60 pounds he will need to bulk up from light heavyweight – 205 pounds – to the heavyweight limit of 265 pounds. DC argued that fighters like Jones who have used steroids in the past are incentivized to try and break the rules again, particularly if they have a long layoff from competition.
“I’m saying test him more – not more than 65 times, that’s excessive. But test him more when he’s not the champ and when he’s not competing.
Because guys are more inclined to cheat when they’re away from the spotlight. So I don’t get how USADA can test a guy so much as the champion, but the moment he walks away, they don’t test him at all.”
