A backstage altercation between The New Day & The Schism would take an interesting turn – as instead of Fowler & Reid calling for a shot at the NXT Tag Team Championships? Joe Gacy would take aim at the former WWE Champion and greatest tag team wrestler in WWE history, Kofi Kingston. Starting off 2023 with a win over Kingston would be massive for the rising star of Gacy.
Never Look Past A Legend Like Kofi Kingston
Gacy started quick with a shoulder tackle, before taking a jumping back elbow from Kingston. The agility of the WWE legend would be on full display with a springboard crossbody, before Ava Raine would crotch Kingston on the top rope as Gacy distracted the referee. Gacy would take Kingston down with a superplex, getting the two count.
Kingston tried to use his speed again, only to be caught in a series of backbreakers. Gacy applied the rear chinlock, with Kingston able to slip free. Kingston set up a frog splash to the back out of the corner, before the PK and the Boom Drop. Trouble In Paradise was blocked into a DDT, getting Gacy a two count.
Gacy was hit with a modified Russian Leg Sweep, before The Dyad would run a distraction. Xavier Woods had enough and was ready to attack, only for Kingston to dive onto Fowler & Reid. Gacy would take Trouble in Paradise in the ring – and Kingston gets the victory.
Grayson Waller Finds Out What The Bron Breakker Effect Is
At NXT Deadline, Grayson Waller would be the winner of the Iron Survivor Challenge – earning his first shot at the NXT Championship. This comes next week at New Year’s Evil – but after spending the holidays back in Australia, Waller is back in the United States to continue mind games with champion Bron Breakker. He’s invited Breakker onto a special edition of the Grayson Waller effect, just one week away from their title match.
After saying this will be the final time fans see Breakker as NXT Champion, Waller would call the champion to the ring. Breakker looked composed hitting the ring, but he’s been quick to anger in recent weeks. Waller knows Breakker wants to rip his head off, but there’s questions from the fans.
First, what’s it like trying to be the next Goldberg, but without the undefeated streak? Breakker doesn’t care. Waller needs to know where the dangerous Breakker is, and if we’ll see him next week when the title is on the line. Breakker would say that Waller is smart, crafty, and knows how to get under anyone’s skin.
The best compliment that Waller can be given, is that he knows how to go viral. Jumping off the top of the WarGames cage, hitting Gargano with a chair, jumping off a ladder at Stand & Deliver, blinding Crews and more. To Breakker, those are distractions from the lacking skill set of Waller, who hides his weakness with flash. That’s the true Grayson Waller effect, and the Bron Breakker effect is him remaining champion.
