Now that we’re a few weeks in 2023, it’s easy to point out what the best and worst professional wrestling matches of 2022 were. While the race for Best Match of the Year is tight – one match stands out as a clear winner of the Worst Match of the year. It was obvious before the bell even rang that Ric Flair’s return to the ring would bring nothing but misfortune. Even Ric Flair would love to have another chance to make that match better.
Ric Flair Wishes He Could Have A Re-Do Of His Final Match
While speaking on his “To Be The Man” podcast, Flair would address comments taken out of context – as some tried to paint him as eager to wrestle again. He would make it clear that he doesn’t want to wrestle again, just wishes his last match went better.
“I wouldn’t recommend it again, either. I don’t know why they’re saying I’m begging for another match. What I’ve said to you repeatedly, I wish I could redo that match. I’m not begging for another match, I don’t want to wrestle again, I have no desire. I wish I had that match to do over again. That’s what I’ve said repeatedly. I just wish I could redo that match.
The match included Flair teaming with Andrade El Idolo to defeat Jay Lethal & Jeff Jarrett. It went 26 minutes, and was considered the worst match of the entire card – which featured wrestlers from all around the world. The card as a whole was still a success despite the lacking main event, being one of the highest drawing independent wrestling shows of the years in terms of attendance and PPV buys.
Considering how much of a risk it was for Ric Flair to step into the ring in 2022, it’s unlikely he does it again. Flair might still do some training sessions with Jay Lethal to remain in good shape, but another match infront of a crowd is unlikely to come. The only chance Flair had to have a truly great last match was his first retirement against Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 24.
