While the cast of the next season of UFC reality TV show The Ultimate Fighter has yet to be announced, one major name might be throwing his hat in the ring. Still sidelined by the leg injury that has kept him from competing since July 2021, UFC superstar Conor McGregor recently took to Instagram to reveal that he has been approached to appear as coach in the next season of TUF.
The caption, accompanying a snap from his original appearance on the show, appears below. “This is a snap from the original ultimate fighter house. Where I coached vs urijah faber. This photo was just before the show tho.
Is Conor McGregor The Next Ultimate Fighter Coach?
It was right before I won my first world title beating urijah team mate chad mendes around. I then went on to coach the famous fight show straight after the fight. With a big black eye and a gash, my tricolor, and my new and first ever ufc gold belt, I waltzed into the notorious fight gym in Las Vegas. The slickest suits and shouts the show had ever seen before.
On top of the silverware. And I coached my team to victory. Crazy. Some journey. I have just been offered to coach this role again. I like it. It is full immersion which is needed .I see fighters lining up.I know whats ahead I been ready motherf*ckers.”
The prospect of a return to the TV show for McGregor accompanies the recent revelation from his longtime head coach John Kavanagh that the former two-division champion is already in negotiations for his next fight. Traditionally, the two coaches on TUF face one another in a major fight at the end of the season. That means McGregor’s co-star – whoever it is – will likely square off against the Irish star to welcome him back to the UFC after almost two years on the sidelines.
Who exactly McGregor has in mind is another story. Kavanagh claims that getting McGregor back to the UFC means getting him excited about an opponent. One name that has been widely thrown around is Michael Chandler, a fan favorite currently competing at lightweight, where McGregor once held a belt. Another potentially huge money-spinning bout is a clash with Jorge Masvidal, whose star power in the organization among casual fans is arguably second only to McGregor’s own.
Whoever it is, a full season of reality TV would surely be an appropriately theatrical buildup to McGregor’s Octagon return. Would you tune in to watch Conor McGregor coaching TUF? Let us know in the comments.
