In early January, WWE fans would be shocked by the return of Vince McMahon to the company following his 2022 retirement. Despite this, he has stayed away from his old role in leading the creative direction of the company. Triple H has remained in charge of that when it comes to shows like Smackdown, Monday Night RAW, and PPV events like Royal Rumble. Meanwhile, the NXT brand has been under the watch of Shawn Michaels, who proved himself as the creative director for NXT UK in the past – and he doesn’t think Vince has time to touch the NXT brand, he has bigger fish to fry.
Shawn Michaels Feels Vince McMahon Is Too Busy To Deal With NXT
During the media call for WWE NXT Vengeance Day, Shawn Michaels would be asked if Vince McMahon has had a hand in NXT since his return to the company. Michaels would respond with the following.
“He has not, and I don’t think he will. I’d imagine that Vince probably has bigger fish to fry than us down here in NXT. One of the things I enjoy about my job down here is the plausible deniability that I’m allowed to have. I don’t ask a lot of questions because I don’t want to know the answers to some of them. Even back when we were here with Vince in charge, he was very good with us down here. They helped us in a certain way and guided us in how they wanted it to go, but after that, it was hands-off. Hunter, the same thing. They’re very good with us down here in NXT. They understand it’s a different environment down here, so we’re very fortunate to kind of be independent, no matter who is running the ship up there in Stamford, they allow us a great deal of freedom down here, which we appreciate.”
Many blamed the messy NXT 2.0 transition on Vince McMahon trying to make it more like Smackdown & RAW. However, as time has passed – fans have realized that NXT was becoming stale in it’s current state before the change to NXT 2.0. While that year was different than the NXT of old, it allowed some fresh stars to shine – which has breathed new life into the brand as a whole, allowing it to return to it’s former status.
