If you look at some of the biggest female stars in the history of WWE, it’s easy to focus on the legends of the past. The likes of Trish Stratus, Lita, Alundra Blayze, Mickie James, and even Mae Young come to mind – but there are a group of modern day legends still active in the ring today. Fans will remember the likes of Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Bayley, Natalya, and Sasha Banks as legends for years to come – and WWE has taken notice of this, and are going to change how they present Lynch & Bayley as a result.
WWE To Push Bayley & Becky Lynch As “All Time Greats”
Going forward, WWE is planning to push Becky Lynch & Bayley as “all time greats”. This began on the latest episode of Monday Night RAW, where commentary referred to them as such. Dave Meltzer would report the following about this in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
“It notable that the announcers now, and obviously this comes from Levesque because they’d never say this on their own, that Lynch and Bayley are all-time greats in wrestling.”
It is very hard to deny these claims as well. While both Lynch & Bayley have their detractors, they remain two of the most popular names on the WWE roster, often near the top in terms of merch sales and drawing power. They’re both incredibly influential as well, with some of the younger names coming up through NXT citing them as the reason they got into professional wrestling.
True Trailblazers In The Women’s Division
Becky Lynch has had higher peaks in WWE, having walked away from WrestleMania 35 as double champion in the main event spot. This was the first ever female main event in WrestleMania history, a true history making moment. Meanwhile Bayley & Sasha Banks really kicked off the ‘women’s evolution’ with their match at NXT Takeover Brooklyn in 2015.
They are still some of the top names in the company today, and while some might disagree they deserve to be called ‘all time greats’ just yet – there is little doubt they will reach that level by the time they hang up their boots.
