This past Saturday, fans of New Japan Pro Wrestling got to see the in-ring debut of Mercedes Mone as she claimed the IWGP Women’s Championship. Formerly known as Sasha Banks in WWE, the in-ring skills of Mone were never in doubt, and she would show her efforts in training as Mone would pull out new tricks on her way to victory. Mone had taken to training in Mexico & Japan ahead of this match – fleshing out her existing in-ring style to take her skills to the next level – and Mone hopes to put those skills to use both in the ring, and to help teach a new generation of professional wrestlers.
Sasha Banks Wants To Open Her Own Wrestling
During a recent interview with Under The Ring – Mone would have the following to say about her intentions to potentially open her own professional wrestling school.
“Wrestling is such a universal language. When you’re in there, you don’t have to say anything, you just gotta flow. When I was in Mexico, I just flowed with the luchadors. When I was in Japan, I just had a flow with them even though I couldn’t exactly understand what they were saying. I love learning every single style that I can possibly be because I want to be the best in every area when it comes to Japanese wrestling, European, Mexico — I wanna be the absolute best.
I’m a student of the game. I’ve been travelling the world training with the best trainers and best wrestlers from all different generations. So I’m ready, I’m excited. This is for my own growth in the future as well because one day I want to have my own wrestling school. So, to be able to have all these different techniques and styles is something I want to be able to give to my students one day so I can teach them how to be the greatest of all time as well.”
Often times, great wrestlers can make for excellent trainers – and Mone is easily one of the best of her generation. Mone is also someone who has inspired many to get into professional wrestling, meaning that the demand to learn directly from her could be huge.
