We’re a few weeks out from WWE 2K23 and changes to names and overall ratings are still being made. Recently, the overall rating for WWE IC champion GUNTHER was revealed as 88. That’s very high and seems about right—high 80s or low 90s.
However, the NXT graduate saw his overall changed because of the Nazi connotations of the number. “H” Is the eighth letter of the alphabet and 88 serves as a code number for the salute to Hitler.
GUNTHER Sees WWE 2K23 Overall Rating Changed Because of Nazi Connotations – Gets One Point Upgrade
Mind you, the GUNTHER and Imperium gimmicks always drew comparisons to Nazi aesthetics. When the harsh German or German bruiser gimmick Is popped you either get cartoon Nazi like Fritz Von Erich, the rivet head like Berlyn, or something like Imperium.
Never mind GUNTHER almost being named after a Nazi U-boat commander. Fortunately, WWE didn’t bring In Santino Marella to manage a team of GUNTHER and Shinsuke early on. When he was told about his rating on The Bump, GUNTHER said:
“It’s a little bit low, I think. But to be fair, I give them that usually those games get developed a little bit back in time…so I think maybe, a few months ago, it was accurate, but by now? Come on.”
His score was bumped to 89 shortly afterwards. WWE 2K23 drops May 17, 2023 on all platforms except for Nintendo Switch and Google Stadia.
