When WWE Hall of Fame manager and GM Teddy Long speaks on his time in wrestling it’s always an insightful interview. In an interview with The Wrestling Time Machine podcast, he discussed a WWE return.
Teddy Long is Open to a Brief WWE Return but Isn’t Interested in a Full-Time Spot
For roughly ten years, Long was an onscreen personality with WWE—typically as an authority figure. His stint on SmackDown became a wrestling meme for siccing The Undertaker on heels and constantly putting tag matches together.
It was similar to the Heyman-McMahon era of SD where battle royals were on TV more often than usual. You remember their performance in their position and Teddy Long became a fond memory for many fans.
Long said that he was up for a return to WWE but didn’t want to be on TV full-time anymore. He’s 75 now and while he didn’t mention age playing a role, he mainly does shows in Georgia now which probably works for him at this point in his career.
Things like live events are still good since the big events where “it means something” are worth the travel if he has a role in a storyline. Teddy Long also said that he could keep up with current product’s pace but not long-term:
“The business has certainly changed, and like I said, it’s moving real fast now and gotta be able to keep up, which I think I can keep up with, but I just don’t see it for the long haul.”
Would you like to see Teddy Long back in WWE as a GM? Who was your all time favorite authority figure in the company? Heads up, Jack Tunney was the worst but share your thoughts in the comments!
