The DiBiase family of wrestling is really going through it legally in Mississippi with Ted DiBiase’s son and former Florida Championship Wrestling hopeful Brett DiBiase pleading guilty to defrauding the American government.
Former WWE Talent Brett DiBiase Wasn’t Sweating What Others Thought as the DiBiase Family’s Embezzlement Woes Were the Bigger Issue – Pleaded Guilty
Back in early 2020, DiBiase, brother Ted DiBiase Jr, and their father/WWE Hall of Famer Ted DiBiase were arrested for their role in the embezzlement of welfare funds. The arrests and charges included 35 others who pilfered over $94 million.
By that December, it had been revealed that he received $48,000 from the state of Mississippi for work he never did. Instead DiBiase was in an upscale rehab center. He was ordered to pay $48,000 and has paid $5,000. As the deputy administrator over his father’s ministry, he was instrumental in the pilfering of over $2 million.
Before pleading guilty for his role in this mess, Brett DiBiase checked in with the Developmentally Speaking podcast and said that worrying about others’ opinions at this time wasn’t the play.
“I got a situation going on in my life right now, and if I literally worried about what people think of me currently, like today, and I don’t mean this in an arrogant way, I wouldn’t be able to get out of bed. But I know my truth, and I know where I’m at.” (Courtesy: Wrestling Inc)
DiBiase was with WWE for a brief period from 2008 to 2011 with most of that time being in FCW developmental. He made an appearance on the main roster and ended his run with the company training to be a referee because of a nagging injury. DiBiase wrestled a bit after his WWE release before taking up a position with his father’s Heart of David Ministries
On March 2, 2023, Brett DiBiase was sentenced to five years in prison.
