Sometimes in professional wrestling, it can take a bad situation to get the best out of someone. This has never been more true than with former WWE Superstar Zack Ryder. Released from the company in 2020, Ryder would try to get a job with All Elite Wrestling as Matt Cardona, but that didn’t work out. Instead, he would reinvent himself on the indies – becoming the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, making a splash in Impact Wrestling, and becoming one of the most hated men in GCW history. Now, with rumours of a WWE return circulating – his close friend Cody Rhodes feels that’s the perfect next move.
Cody Rhodes Wants Matt Cardona Back In WWE
While speaking with The Good Karma Wrestling podcast, Cody Rhodes would speak on the massive success Cardona has found outside of WWE – but feels a return would take things to the next level.
I’m really proud of him. He’s out there, he’s doing the ‘Indie God’ thing with the Indiana Jones hats. Everything Matt’s doing, Matt has been the king of the indies now, this is going on year two. You only usually get one run in that role, you know? He’s going on year two. What Matt does next is gonna be huge. If he goes to AEW, that’d be cool but if he comes back to WWE, that’s what I want, it would be off the charts. I think he’s a huge get, a huge free agent, he’s the best he’s ever been but he’s really pissed me off. I have no good karma with Matt Cardona at the moment.”
Cardona’s wife Chelsea Green made her return to WWE earlier this year as part of the Royal Rumble – but Cardona has yet to return at this time. There is hope that he shows up again on the RAW after WrestleMania 39 – a show which Cody Rhodes will main event as he takes on Roman Reigns.
