In 2020 and 2021, it was widely believed the purging of talent the WWE did under the banner of “budget cuts” was to lower their expenses and make the company look more promising to potential buyers.
It’s typical of any company as the fewer expenses (employees, benefits, other costs) versus the income makes them look more appealing to potential buyers.
WWE Downsizing WrestleMania 39 to Increase Profits Margin for Potential Sale
And given some of the releases while the company made record profits that’s one of the few plausible reasons for the releases.
Now, fast forward to 2023 and Vince McMahon as forced his way back onto the board of directors to facilitate a sale of the company.
With the WWE product humming along nicely under Triple H, it was a shock to many fans. Especially when Stephanie McMahon resigned from the company, not just her co-CEO role.
More cutbacks
In recent days, there have been numerous trending topics and various message about people being released or fearing release from the company with WrestleMania 39 right around the corner.
While initially reports indicated the talent wasn’t happy about being taken off the show when the decision to stop the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal was made since the WWE made a point of putting as much of their talent as possible in the show.
But now there have been reports that the reason for the cutbacks at WrestleMania are to cut costs and save the company money.
The reason for that is to show as big a profit as possible on the two night event to make the company look even better to potential buyers.
The WWE is reportedly keeping their usual WrestleMania weekend activities in place for fans, and we doubt that’ll change as it’ll mean the fans are handing over more money.
Moving to one night?
When the news about streamlining WrestleMania broke, some questioned on whether it means they would still have two night or just one day.
While it looks like they’re keeping the two day formula in place to draw in as much revenue as possible, chances are the surprises will be minimal as any big names would cost more money.
Given the shift in WWE television the last few weeks going more in the direction favored by Vince McMahon, we expect WrestleMania to be as safe and conservative as possible to limit anything that can go wrong.
In the end, wrestling is a business and there will most likely be some other maneuvering to make the company more enticing.
