In 2021, fans were shocked to see deep cuts to the WWE roster. In the bunch was a man who recently held the NXT North American Championship in Bronson Reed. This would lead to the Australian powerhouse proving his skills around the world, making a name for himself in both Impact Wrestling & New Japan Pro Wrestling – even defeating current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada. This run led to WWE bringing him back, which didn’t shock Reed.
Bronson Reed Gained Confidence Following WWE Release
During an interview with Joe Perl, Reed would explain that his confidence was boosted thanks to his WWE release forcing him to prove his skills. Reed would have the following to say about his 2021 WWE release.
“I feel like, if anything, it gave me more confidence to come back here to WWE. I don’t have a chip on my shoulder, but it proved to me that I could go elsewhere and I could do other things and still be a commodity. Enough so that I could come back here to the WWE. I always had that in the back of my head that there was unfinished business. I didn’t get to be on a RAW or SmackDown or these premium live events. So now I’m back here, I’m killing it on RAW and I’m in my first Chamber match. Things seem to be working out. If anything, that time away almost helped me to come back for this run.”
This outlook is not common from people after their WWE releases, but is a healthy one. Many can grow complacent when they made it to WWE, and don’t seek to improve. Reed took this as a chance to really prove his worth – and if WWE didn’t take him back? He likely would have found a big contract with NJPW after his run in the 2022 G1 Climax tournament. Regardless of what followed that tournament – he was going to have steady work in wrestling, because he proved himself.
