WWE 205 Live Results: Isaiah Scott vs. Joaquin Wilde

Last week on 205 Live, the winning streak of Joaquin Wilde (fka DJ Z of Impact Wrestling) was snuffed out by Danny Burch. Looking to redeem that loss as he would face the always impressive Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott (fka Shane Strickland) for 205 Live. Scott has been on the rise as of late, with his only loss on the 205 Live brand coming back in 2019 against Drew Gulak. Would Wilde end the winning streak of Swerve?

Isaiah Scott Shows Joaquin Wilde How It’s Done

With two of the best wrestlers of the NXT Cruiserweights, this match was always going to be fantastic. The match started off with a showcase of the technical ability of both men, with Swerve having a clear advantage in that field. A sunset flip and aggressive arm rag would give him control over Swerve for a short while, before both men would bust out counter after counter, showing they have done their homework before entering the ring. A headscissor takedown would send Swerve to the outside, allowing Wilde to go high risk. He would attempt a baseball slide, only to be caught in the ring skirt and have the stiff boot of Swerve delivered to his face. With no one in attendance of the Performance Center, the echo of the kick was extra loud. Wilde wouldn’t be done after this, still kicking out, but the advantage was in Swerves court.

Swerve would use some forearms across the jaw, using his rarely seen ground and pound style to grind down Wilde with strikes and submissions. One that nearly ended the match was a modified Gory Clutch, where he pulled the shoulders of Wilde into an awkward position. Swerve was looking more like Zack Sabre Jr. in this match, showing how versatile he is. Wilde would survive, and rally back after some more punishment, countering a superplex attempt with strikes of his own. He would take to the sky with a beautiful frankensteiner, and follow up with a a diving arm drag off the apron, sending the back of Swerve into the announce table. Wilde kept the pressure with a diving DDT, but it would be countered giving Swerve the advantage again.

Once both men were vertical, they traded heavy strikes and things got very physical. Swerve would find himself on the apron, but once Wilde closed in with a lariat, he’d smoothly slip behind for a German Suplex, which Wilde quickly recovered from to hit a reverse frankensteiner for a near fall. Swerve would be right back up, and nail another stiff kick for a near fall. After that exchange, the fatigue of both men was obvious . Swerve attempted a diving foot stomp, but Wilde evaded, and found himself on the top rope, where Swerve would grab him for a modified Michinoku Driver for the win.

Will Swerve Be NXT Cruiserweight Champion Soon?

With another impressive win under his belt, Swerve is continuing to prove he should be the number one contender for Jordan Devlin’s NXT Cruiserweight Championship. Swerve was in the match where Devlin won the championship, but that was the only time they have clashed. It would be a fresh and incredible match, and hopefully one WWE saves for a hot crowd at an NXT Takeover event. Do you think think Isaiah Scott is champion material? A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
