When Cody Rhodes left All Elite Wrestling to return to WWE, it was a prime example of someone betting on themselves. Being one of the EVP’s in AEW would have ensured Rhodes a job for life – but one that would have never seen him become a World Champion again.
Now, Rhodes is on his way to the main event of WrestleMania 39 – where he hopes to take the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship from Roman Reigns, and be a full time champion.
Cody Rhodes Wants A More Is More Schedule
While speaking with Fightful, Rhodes would be asked what his intentions of what his plans if he becomes champion would be – having the following to say.
”I’ve made a great career out of proving people wrong, and I’ve taken the attitude as of now about proving people right, especially this new audience with WWE that has really warmly welcomed me back. A whole new audience that kind of pairs well with the independent audience I was able to bring over and hopefully bring as many folks as I could. They pair so well together. It’s vindication for both those who are just in it now; this is their first ride with ‘The American Nightmare.’ They like what they’re seeing. Then, it’s vindication for those who have been there every step of the way.
Like the song Kingdom says, ‘I’ll follow you till the end.’ When is the end? Is the end when I win the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship, or is the end when I win that title and then take it every single place I can possibly take it and excel and deliver on a level that no champion has done in years? I want to cut a schedule like Bret Hart, like Ric Flair. I want to do something very different than modern champions have done, where there’s a bit of a ‘less is more’ schedule. I want a ‘more is more’ schedule.”
Modelling Himself After John Cena Is Possible
It’s been a while since WWE has had a chance to put a hot babyface as their top champion. Big E was the last face to hold the WWE Championship, with many agreeing his reign was poorly booked.
Rhodes is a chance for WWE to have a proper hero lead the company – provided he is able to dethrone Reigns at WrestleMania 39.
Another who took the more is more mentality as WWE Champion was John Cena – who Rhodes views as a role model. Rhodes modelling his main event style after Cena could lead to a polarizing reaction, but it’s a proven formula in WWE at the end of the day.
