Kurt Angle Thinks Roman Reigns’ Championship Run is Too Long

While Roman Reigns’ current title run in the WWE is “historical”, it also has its fair share of detractors for going on too long.

We’ve mentioned it numerous times how it feels stale with the Bloodline constantly having to save Reigns and how Sami Zayn injected life into it.

But now we’re back to the same old formula where Reigns gets the help and the rest are left to flounder unless he decides otherwise, and it’s really worn thin for a lot of fans.

A perfect example is his numerous wins over Brock Lesnar and then Cody Rhodes. It’s repetitive and having Reigns lose one or both titles and trying to get them back would be a great way to inject new life into his run.

We like to point to Hulk Hogan losing the WCW World Heavyweight Championship while part of the nWo and then having to find a way to win it back as proving a loss doesn’t affect a championship run if it’s memorable.

Unless it’s chasing the number of days to prove a point.

    Times change

There will be plenty of fans that point out Hogan losing the title was over twenty years ago and times change, and they’re right. They also give weight to the argument for Reigns losing the titles.

Kurt Angle recently talked about how things have changed and why Reigns should drop the title on the Kurt Angle Show (https://www.youtube.com/@TheAnglePod/featured ).

His argument is the fact fans have far more access to WWE programming today than years previously. Because of that, fans expect quicker title changes.

To be fair, we’ve been trained to expect quicker changes as the usually life span is six months or less anymore unless a dominant wrestler holds the title.

With Reigns current streak nearing 1000 days, there’re rumors of him possibly holding onto the title until he retires, which will be a few years from now according to reports.

    Old school alert

This is where we’re going to sound like old timers, but there was a time when the only outlet fans had to wrestlers was a local weekly show, going to a live show, and buying the numerous wrestling magazines that used to fill newsstands.

It was a fun time because we had time to miss seeing a show and could keep up with news by reading the magazines. Many times we came up with dream matches and feuds between the different promotions.

During the territory days, there was a decent chance we’d get to see the matches we wanted, even if we had to drive hours to watch it.

Wrestlers would come and go in the territories. Some of the greats like Bruno, Andre The Giant, and Bruiser Brody stayed fresh by moving from area to area, and as world champion, Bruno would wrestle regularly, but not every match was televised.

It allowed us to miss them and heighten the appeal of seeing them defend or challenge for titles.

Now, we can watch just about any match whenever we want and it helps the product grow stale.

What do you think? Do you agree longer, engrossing title reigns are a thing of the past? Let us know in the comments below.
