For a while now, there has been one man at the peak of WWE. The leader of The Bloodline, Roman Reigns- has held an iron grip on the top spot of the WWE roster.
He’s defeated the likes of Brock Lesnar, Cesaro, Bryan Danielson, Edge, Kevin Owens, Goldberg, Sami Zayn, Riddle and so many more during his reign as WWE Universal Champion. Many fans are wondering just when this reign will end – but that might not be until they can update the history books of WWE.
Updating The History Books Using Roman Reigns
Recently Andrew Zarian of the Wrestling Observer would respond to a tweet from Jim Valley about Reigns potentially surpassing Hulk Hogan’s 1,474-day title reign. Zarian would have the following to say – that WWE is looking to update their history books using Roman Reigns.
“I have been told numerous times that WWE wants to update its history books and needs longer title reigns.”
Another Belt Enables Reigns To Make History While Other Talent Get Their Chance To Shine
With the WWE World Heavyweight Championship introduced, Reigns no longer has a monopoly on the main event scene in WWE. This will enable him to have his historic reign, while the likes of Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, GUNTHER and more get to have their time in the spotlight.
WWE had a great chance to make history starting a reign in the uncertain times of the WWE Thunderdome era, giving Reigns a lengthy reign before fans even returned to arenas. While it’s been deflating to see Reigns continuously win every feud he enters, at a certain point – WWE realise they aren’t beating records set by Hulk Hogan unless they commit.
At the time of writing, Reigns has been Universal Champion for 973 days, and WWE Champion for 394 days. He will not be defending at WWE Backlash on May 6th.
