With the introduction of a new world heavyweight championship belt, the WWE seems to be going back to the old days when the belts looked more iconic and less cartoony or toy like.

While that is a step in the right direction for many fans, the fact the new title isn’t replacing the often maligned Universal or the Universal and WWE title is a failing in many ways.

Top 5 Ways the WWE can Legitimize the New World Heavyweight Championship

Basically, it’s just another belt the company can market as a gimmick. While that may possibly change in the future, given it has its own history makes it hard for the WWE to make it appear as a legitimate alternative to the ones Roman Reigns currently has.

So, given the landscape is being tweaked in the WWE with multiple world titles, we decided to put together a list of the top five ways we think the WWE can legitimize the new World Heavyweight Championship.

    Let the countdown begin!

    • One of the easiest ways to legitimize a championship is by holding a tournament and selecting the right champion.

The WWE is halfway there with a tournament planned, so then the problem will be who to crown the new champion.

It’ll have to be someone that fans either love or hate, and someone that is able to get the fans’ reactions and draw them into the venues.

Of course, this is where we can hear fans cracking jokes about Drew McIntyre being the worst draw in history thanks to his runs as champion during the lockdown.

But all jokes aside, and assuming he stays with the company, there’s no reason he can’t go on a monster tear and win the title. He was a fan favorite to win it prior to the lockdown and he’s still a fan favorite despite being placed on the mid card.

Other obvious contenders are Seth Rollins and GUNTHER, and those three could have a great three way rivalry in the tournament leading to Night of Champions when the new champion will be crowned.

    • Another way is to have the Royal Rumble winner challenge for the title. This would be a great way to further the feud between the runners up as they could meet in the Rumble with both being obsessed with winning the title like Steve Austin was the WWE Championship.
    • Never mention it and Roman Reigns in the same sentence. The title is supposed to be exclusive to Raw and to give fans a champion that’s not a part timer, and bringing up Reigns or his run every episode would only hinder it.
    • Brock Lesnar shouldn’t win it. We love Lesnar, but the Beast is better served to be a floating threat that can topple anyone than as a champion as he should be unbeatable aside from a herculean effort.

Putting the title on him would be the same as giving it to Reigns and rob it of the chance to begin a new legacy.

    • And number one on our list is to not use it as a prop to finish the story. Yep, Cody Rhodes may be on Raw but he should not even sniff this title outside of putting over the eventual champ or challengers.

His story is built around Roman Reigns, and tying him to this title will cement it’s legacy as a secondary title.

If fan theories are correct and Cody will win the Royal Rumble again to face Reigns, then he’s a non factor aside from setting up the new champion.

What are your top five ways to legitimize the new title? Let us know in the comments below.
