Vince Russo has recently made an interesting observation about the attack on Matt Riddle by Imperium on WWE RAW. During Legion of RAW, the former WWE writer noted that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were nowhere to be seen while Riddle got manhandled.
Vince Russo Believes That Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn Should’ve Rescued Matt Riddle During Imperium Mugging
As a writer, Russo knows that interactions between characters should impact or influence actions later down the road. He trailed things back to two weeks prior when the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions who were down a guy against Imperium.
Fast forward two weeks and here we are with Riddle get stomped out by Imperium. Not only that but no one comes to his aid! There’s no entrance music or crowd pop. You’d think maybe someone he’s helped recently would hit the ring and even the odds. Russo felt the same way about the writing:
“So the argument could be they actually owe Riddle one because Riddle helped them out and was the mystery partner. Now he’s out there getting his butt kicked. These two are in the back arguing like two girls.” (h/t: Sportskeeda)
This is pretty much what I figured as well while watching RAW. I actually expected them to help Riddle—Imperium was their problem a few weeks ago. Sure, they had their own thing going on in the back but this just came off as washing their hands of Riddle.
At least Imperium looks more threatening in that they can strike at any time and do a lot of damage.
It also seems like something that would need to be addressed or plays into something else. You could say it was something of a slight, he was left hanging. Then again, WWE could be adding some of that early 90s Sting forgiveness to Matt Riddle’s on screen. You could also say that he volunteered to catch strays since he volunteered to help Owens and Zayn.
