The WWE has long been a company where their faces tend to dominate and have the best careers. Vince McMahon touted good overcoming evil since the beginning with Hulk Hogan’s lengthy runs and that continued until the Bloodline storyline with Roman Reigns.
It’s a staple of the company’s image for decades, and now they have the next big start that’s growing in popularity, gets the fans excited every time, and is among the top four in merchandise sales.
WWE Resistant to Turning LA Knight Face Despite Growing Popularity
The only problem with the WWE formula is LA Knight is a heel. But when he comes out he gets cheered. Even when he berates the local town or fans the boos are there but the cheers overwhelm them.
His charisma is arguably the best in the company right now and he’s firing on all cylinders.
Everything points toward him having a face turn before too long to really cash in on his popularity and soar, but according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, they want him to stay a heel.
“LA Knight is really over. It’s weird, they still slot him as a heel, but they know, and everyone knows he’s a babyface. They know he’s the really big flavor of the month thing, so you might as well take advantage of it.”
Vince’s handiwork?
It’s possible there are plans in place for Knight to become a top heel like Roman Reigns, but this feels more like Vince McMahon’s doing.
Vince is notorious for wanting fans to follow along with what he wants. King Kong Bundy once said in a shoot interview that he believes in ramming things down fans’ throats until we accept it. Like a face Roman Reigns.
There was also a time when he refused to consider Daniel Bryan a main eventer for months despite the fan reaction. He eventually gave in, but it took awhile.
Vince also has a thing against age as he reportedly makes talent and producers dye their hair and beards so there’s no gray showing.
Recently, Knight talked about how Vince wanted him to strictly be a manager due to him being 40 years old, but Triple H taking over WWE Creative saved him from that.
There’s also been many reports from Jim Ross and others that Vince no longer wanted a superstar like John Cena, Hulk Hogan, or the Rock as the brand of the company as he wished for fans to pay to see the WWE brand as a whole.
Basically, taking the star power away from the product in many ways, and all of that is why we think Vince is why Knight is staying a heel.
It’s a weird sense of logic, but one that oddly fits with Vince’s previous behavior. Whoever is against Knight going face is doing him, the company, and the fans a huge disservice.
