During the 2023 WWE draft, Baron Corbin would end up as a free agent. This would allow him to appear as needed on any WWE, which led to him returning to his professional wrestling roots in NXT. Returning to his original ‘Lone Wolf’ character, Corbin has been trying to revitalize his career and is fighting to remain in NXT as a result.
Baron Corbin Wants To Stay In NXT For Several More Months
During an interview with Joey Karni of The Angle Podcast, Corbin would clarify his status on the WWE roster. Corbin also explained why he hopes to be on NXT for a while yet.
“I’m still on all three shows. But I am fighting to stay in NXT a little bit because I really just wanna give our audience a good break from me, you know? Give them a few months without me driving them nuts. So I would like to personally stay in NXT for a couple more months and just really fine-tune the details of what I’m trying to bring to the people and I mean, NXT’s great but I’m also enjoying working with the superstars down there. They’re hungry, they got a lot of energy, a lot of excitement, they love this. It elevates your passion… So it’s a fun place to be. They could call me for SmackDown tonight. I don’t know. I don’t know what’s happening but, I’m loving it down there.”
Corbin has been positioned as a top name on the NXT roster, facing NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes and being the debut opponent of Gable Steveson.
There are no plans for Corbin to win any championships in NXT like we saw from Dominik Mysterio – with the intentions being to use the status of Corbin to draw in viewers and elevate talent.
Corbin is someone that WWE has always found a use for, being one of their best utility players. His return to NXT is simply his latest role, and when he’s needed on the main roster again. That could be in a few months, or in 2024.
