The big day is here and tonight’s WWE Raw will be the final show of the Vince McMahon Era.
In a way, it’s fitting it’s occurring on 9/11 given the WWE was the first large gathering of people to occur following the attack on the World Trade Centers.
Vince McMahon’s speech on that week’s Smackdown was arguably the best of his career, and it was a great moment for everyone that got to take part or witness it as life started to move forward.
Both were monumental moments in the sport. It’s a nice bookend as we expect a speech or some other gesture by Vince on tonight’s show.
Of course, that could be hoping for too much and it’ll just be another day at the office.
Turning the page
We all expected this day to come since the news Endeavor bought the WWE, but it also seemed like it already happened as Vince hasn’t been reported to be at the shows like he used to be.
But officially on September 12, 2023 the merger will be complete and the WWE will be under the same umbrella as the UFC.
Unfortunately, there have been numerous reports that there will be a cleaning house happening in the WWE offices as Endeavor will have people in place to do the work much of the WWE does like travel and so on, so to avoid redundancies there will be firings.
It sucks for those people and their families, but it’s also business. After all, Vince got his billions so maybe he’ll make sure they get hefty severance packages?
It’ll also bring a change most fans aren’t accustomed to as Vince won’t be running WWE anymore. At least, not solo like he used to.
He’s going to have a boss to answer to now, and if he tries to make changes or micromanage the product as he’s done for decades, there could be some serious consequences.
The legacy
There have been so many great moments in the WWE thanks to Vince’s vision from the higher quality production wise, to some of the greatest events, moments, and matches in history.
It’s nearly impossible to narrow down everything he did in words unless it’s a book. And while not everything he did was good (such as the road schedule grinding talent down) he did give try to give us the best product.
Still, this leaves the future open to new possibilities as he hands over the reigns to the next generation.
