Hulk Hogan will forever be considered one of, if not the best professional wrestler in history as he was the biggest draw in history and helped make wrestling a worldwide phenomenon.
One of the most memorable events in his career for fans was his match against the Rock at WrestleMania X8.
It was one of those moments where you could see Hogan tearing up from the love the fans showered on him and as a result he turned face partway through before losing to the Rock.
So it’s no surprise that he joined millions of others in watching the Rock’s return to WWE Smackdown last week on September 15.
The Rock and John Cena have some time on their hands with the writer and actors strike in Hollywood, and wrestling fans are benefiting from it as they’ve returned to the WWE for the time being.
The result could be something the WWE has been missing for a few years – superstar power.
The “it” factor
For whatever reason, the WWE has struggled for years to build a new superstar to follow John Cena, so they keep bringing their Legends back for various spots.
Last week, the Rock returned and looks like he’s entering into a feud with Austin Theory, which should help elevate Theory into the superstar status the WWE needs him to be.
Hogan sat down for an interview with Sports Illustrated and talked about how the Rock returning at WrestleMania would be huge.
“The Rock, he’s one of a kind. He’s on another level. That was noticeable right away. But one part stood out to me–and I thought it was very clear. Rock still has wrestling in his blood.
“That would be a moment for everyone. Not everyone was around, not even a lot of today’s stars, for the first WrestleMania with Mr. T and Liberace. Or to see me and Andre The Giant at WrestleMania III. But if Rock comes back, people will never forget it.
“For all the people to see him come back, and see greatness right in front of us, it would be amazing. If The Rock comes back at WrestleMania, it will be a moment people will never forget.”
When the topic of the Rock being 51 years old came up, Hogan dismissed it.
“Even though he hasn’t wrestled in a while, if he goes out there, Rock is going to tear that place down. Good luck to anyone trying to follow that match.”
