Kevin Nash Reveals He Recently Dealt with Skin Cancer and Said It Was a Result of Using Tanning Beds While in WWE
The former World Champion explained that it was all hthe tanning he did to keep up appearances as an active wrestler. Having a bronzed—or something of a bronzed—body was a major aesthetic for superstars during the 1980s and into the 2000s. As a matter of fact, you could say it factored into the “physique” category as far as building a main event superstar.
It was something that many wrestlers who were signed to promotion engaged in: tanning, the gym for most, and whatever else wrestlers usually got into. Even a company like ECW which overextended its funds had wrestlers who tanned regularly such as AEW color commentator Taz.
Mind you, the “whatever else” is whatever else. Kevin Nash was different and noted that for roughly 25 years, he used the tanning bed to keep that look while in the WWE since the company preferred that look but were running in northeast at the time. He told Sean Oliver:
“I religiously go to the dermatologist every three months and get it checked out. I know exactly why I have these problems. I have had several things cut off of me. Was the 25-plus years of laying in tanning beds in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and everywhere else because we had no sun and we had Monday Night Raw and there wasn’t an alternative, there wasn’t like spray tans that were effective.”
In explaining the surgery, Nash said that his face had to be cut to remove the problem and that he was fine. He assured listeners and viewers that he would heal as the other cuts have healed as well. The Hall of Famer mentioned that he couldn’t exercise for a few weeks since it could open up his facial wound from the surgery.
