It appears that Jade Cargill jumping to WWE has impressed several veterans in the industry including former WCW head Eric Bischoff. On his 83 Weeks podcast, he touched on the former TBS Champion signing with WWE, describing it as “very interesting”
Eric Bischoff Considers Jade Cargill Signing to WWE ‘Very Interesting’
The most interesting thing to Bischoff is that she’s keeping the name that brought her to the dance. I remember my interest being piqued when she was introduced as “Jade Cargill” for her media appearance with company CCO Triple H. Usually when a new superstar signed whether they wrestle under their real name or a name they have built, WWE aims to change that for legal reasons.
Eric Bischoff also pointed this out as “very interesting” and WWE operating outside of its normal playbook on this one.
“There’s no gimmick attorney Mike Dockins, trademark or copyright issues. But [the] point is, typically WWE wants to own that name, they want to merchandise that name. So, they’re basically doing a licensing deal with her as opposed to her showing up and being a talent, and they own the license or they own the trademarks. I think that’s very interesting, and it does definitely break the paradigm. That is not what WWE normally does, over the decades. Fascinating to me.” (h/t: Wrestling Inc)
In a separate interview Cargill said that holding on to her real name was very important to her since he invested so much into making her name a name in the industry. Not only that, but she did also so in less than five years of wrestling. There has been a question of whether Jade Cargill was going straight to the main roster or if she would rip through NXT for a brief jaunt before being promoted.
Triple H himself said the former TBS Champion would debut in the company when she is ready. This is also interesting since she was a champion in a promotion that antagonizes WWE in some fashion each month. She was regularly featured on television—national cable television. However, there’s TV-ready and WWE TV-ready and perhaps Triple H and others feel that she needs a little more seasoning.
