Legendary wrestler-turned-actor John Cena startled the WWE Universe by declaring his retirement from in-ring competition at the Money in the Bank event in Toronto, Canada.
With a shirt that said “The Last Time is Now,” the 16-time WWE Champion spoke passionately to the crowd. He revealed that the upcoming year will be his final year within the squared circle, delivering a farewell tour full of exciting events.
“Tonight, I officially announce my retirement from the WWE,” Cena said. “We are going to create unforgettable lasts alongside historic firsts. “The 2025 Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas will be my last appearances as a competitor.”
John Cena’s Expressions of Gratitude and Note on Legacy
Cena’s speech was filled with expressions of thanks for the WWE fan base’s enduring support. Thanking his supporters “through thick and thin,” he acknowledged the highs and lows of the professional wrestling world.
Cena told fans that even though his departure from in-ring competition is a big move, his relationship with WWE will not degrade.
He hinted at a job beyond wrestling, perhaps leading up to Monday Night Raw’s historic 2025 shift to Netflix. Cena further explained, “This farewell isn’t an ending.” “It’s filled with opportunities.”
“WWE is filled with stories. It’s constantly a program of stories ending and new stories beginning,” Cena said at a press conference after the event. “I’ve never been too concerned with the word ‘legacy,’ and I don’t want you to mix messages here: It doesn’t mean I shortchange any second on the canvas. I wish I could do it infinitely. Now I want to just try to do something special for a globe of people I owe everything to.”
Cena’s farewell tour concludes his remarkable two-decade career. He first appeared in the early 2000s, drawing fans with his several identities, including the fan favorite “Doctor of Thuganomics.” His in-ring dominance resulted in 16 WWE Championship victories, placing him among the greatest wrestlers of all time.
