WWE Friday Night SmackDown rolls on. We get our look at Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman’s history, clips from Braun’s earliest days where he promised to stack up mountains of bodies in the name of the Eater of Worlds. This is relatively short-lived though before transitioning to the antics of the past couple of weeks. We then get a recap of the segment last week with Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose. MITB qualifiers are up and for a moment I thought it was seriously Otis/Ziggler and Mandy/Sonya, but it’s Mandy/Carmella instead. Backstage, Dana Brooke asks Carmella about her MITB qualifier next week. Carmella admits that Dana may have inspired her. But tonight they’re focused on the Women’s Tag Team titles, they’ll be challenging Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross.
The next stage of the Triple H celebration highlights his big return from injury at the start of 2002. It’s a pretty quick recap of it actually, doesn’t even show any of his promo. We then parlay into our women’s tag title match.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships: Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross (c) vs. Carmella & Dana Brooke
Nikki and Dana start out, Dana with an immediate dropkick sends Nikki to the outside! Alexa out to tend to Nikki, Carmella surprises her with a crossbody off the apron! Cross slams Carmella into the barricade, but Dana gets Cross with a crossbody off the barrier! She celebrates as we go to commercial break. As we come back, Carmella gets a tag and takes it to Bliss with a couple of flying clothesline, moonwalk, thrust kick but Cross breaks up the pin! But outside, Dana attacks Cross, super exaggerated Handspring into a pretty regular Back Elbow. Pretty funny actually.
Carmella has Alexa up top, goes for the Stratusphere, but as she hits it Cross tags herself back in and Carmella doesn’t realize it. As she’s pinning Alexa, Nikki attacks her. Tag back to Alexa, Carmella gets double teamed, tries to fight them off but gets taken down with a Snapshot, shades of MNM! That gets the champs the victory.
Winners: Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross
Pretty standard match. It did sorta feel like Dana disappeared at the end, they didn’t exactly do anything to prevent her from breaking up the pin but it’s almost refreshing to see a tag match end without totally breaking down.
