In Impact Wrestling, one of the acts in the tag team division is the humorous Desi Hit Squad. Rohit Raju & Raj Singh alongside Mahabali Shera have been working with Impact Wrestling for the past few years, and have had some great matches along the way, but could they be something more than a comedic team. With Stampede Wrestling legend Gama Singh in their corner, should they be allowed to take a more serious approach?
Rohit Raju Has Potential As A Singles Star
Known elsewhere as Hakim Zane, Raju is the current AAW Heritage Champion, a belt previously held by the likes of Colt Cabana, Pentagon Jr, and Michael Elgin. Despite this, and that he has consistently shown that he is talented in singles, he is in a tag team for Impact Wrestling with little sign of change. During an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on the Impact Wrestling subreddit, he admitted he prefers singles. “I prefer singles, because I’ve always been driven to be that singles star. But I have enjoyed my time with the Squad. I’ve teamed with every member, and it’s been fun. My favorite tag as far as Impact goes was probably stuff with The Rascalz or Willie and Rich. Any match with Jake Something/Cousin Jake has ALWAYS been fire. My last match with Paco in AAW was my most recent fav.”
A More Serious Desi Hit Squad
While the Desi Hit Squad has mostly been played for laughs, Raju had some ideas on how they could do something truly unique, and use the racism thrown against them to good use. From the same AMA thread, he mentioned the following.
“We wanted to do a more serious DHS. I mentioned cutting promos about how fans would chant “kwiki mart” at us, but who was the one going there and buying his 50th slurpee? Who was he giving money too? When you want to act like you have some culture where do you go eat at? The Indian restaurant. You took Yoga from us. Who taught you how to have better sex with thanks to the Kama Sutra? We did. You wanna do Indian things, but boo the guys that brought it to you. I wanted to do something like that, but they wanted a sillier DHS, because it was more entertaining in their eyes.”
