Former 2x National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) United States Tag Team Champion (w/Jack Brisco), 2x NWA North American Tag Team Champion (w/Jack Brisco), 3x NWA World Tag Team Champion (w/Jack Brisco), and NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion — Gerald Brisco has been reportedly furloughed by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
Known for his amateur wrestling background that blended perfectly with professional wrestling, he and his brother Jack, who was a 2x NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion would dominate the 1970s on the United States wrestling circuit. The Brisco Brothers won singles and tag team gold wherever they went, and would make their name as dependable draws around the country.
Gerald had been with the WWE since 1984 and was known to scout college wrestling tournaments to find talent that could make a smooth transition to professional wrestling. During the ‘Attitude Era’ he and Pat Patterson starred in a highly rated segment with the Mean Street Posse. The May 10, 1999, quarterly segment drew a gigantic 8.61, with viewership going up throughout the match. The segment is one of the highest rated quarters in the history of WWE Raw.
While Brisco is 73-years-old, he can land another job in professional wrestling. All Elite Wrestling (AEW), Ring Of Honor (ROH), IMPACT Wrestling, and New Japan Of America (NJoA) could all look to Brisco for his knowledge and respect throughout the wrestling industry. Yet, if Gerald decided to retire his accomplishments in the business are long, having been able to have success as a wrestler and office member.
The move is likely the result of the April 15th moves made by WWE to maintain current profit margins. However, it remains shocking that Brisco would be let go after being with the company for nearly 40 years.
Gerald Brisco is the father to former WWE developmental talent and Total Nonstop Action (IMPACT Wrestling) wrestler, Wes Brisco who continues to wrestle.
