In WWE right now, the best storyline going is the love between Mandy Rose & Otis of Heavy Machinery. For months now, they have been through ups and downs, with Otis finally getting a date with Mandy on Valentines Day, which was spoiled by Sonya Deville & Dolph Ziggler. They were exposed by the mysterious Smackdown Hacker, which lead to a Wrestlemania match where Otis was able to defeat Dolph Ziggler. During that match, Mandy Rose would intercept Sonya Deville, kick Ziggler between the legs which gave Otis the win, and they would embrace in a Wrestlemania Moment For The Ages. The story is still going, with an increased focus on Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville, but we now know who pitched the story in the first place.
Mandy Rose Pitched Storyline With Otis Directly To Vince
During an interview with Sports Illustrated, Mandy Rose would speak in depth about this storyline down to how it came about in the first place. She had went to Vince himself with the idea, and he absolutely loved it. “It’s hard to get in Vince’s office, but I finally got in and I pitched this story. He loved it, he had some ideas, and then Sonya and I had a lot of say in the creative, which was really cool. We were able to write a lot of it. We all worked together, and that’s one of the reasons it’s worked so well. Everyone’s been really passionate about it.”
The storyline was pitched on the back of the real life friendship between Otis & Mandy, which was formed during their time down in NXT. This is why their connection is so genuine on screen, because they are playing off how they act backstage. Mandy had the following to say about Otis, how they met and behind the scenes. “Ever since we met in NXT, we’d always joke around together. He’d call me ‘Mandy Candy’ and cut different promos, and it was really cute. He’s just so charismatic, even when he’s not on camera. He makes us laugh the same amount when he’s off camera. He’s funny and super sweet, and he’s so kind, which is one of the best qualities.” Their backstage interview following their Wrestlemania match was unscripted according to Mandy, so it was just them being themselves and enjoying each others company.
Is this storyline proof that WWE should be allowing more talent to simply be themselves on TV and have increased creative control? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
