AJ Styles Let Down By His WWE Return

At Wrestlemania 36, the main event of Night One was AJ Styles vs. The Undertaker in the first ever Boneyard Match. The cinematic styled Buried Alive match was a hit with fans and critics alike, and it ended with AJ Styles being buried in a shallow grave, and not adding another loss to the Wrestlemania record of his legendary opponent. Many saw this as a great chance for WWE to revamp the character of AJ Styles, take a new spin on him. However, he would return like nothing happened during the last chance gauntlet match on this past weeks episode of Monday Night RAW. He would defeat Humberto Carillo and earn his way into his second Money In The Bank match. This would let down many fans, as well as Styles himself.

AJ Styles Is Mad About A Lack Of Creativity

Since the quarantine started, AJ Styles has begun streaming more on Mixer. Always an avid gamer, Styles is right at home among other gaming streamers, but with the added pull of being a WWE superstar. During a stream this past Wednesday, Styles would speak on how he was let down by his WWE return, saying the following. “The return could have been more, I’ve heard people talk about ‘Well, I mean, you kinda just wasted it. AJ Styles was buried alive and he could have come back as a different character, in a different mood, a different look. Something different about AJ Styles. He came back and he was exactly the same as before he got buried.’ I’m with you… “I wish we could have waited. I think, if times would have been different, that would have been something that we went with.”

Should He Have Taken A Supernatural Approach?

One of the things fans wanted was to have AJ Styles return was “The Phenom One”, having gained some of the abilities of The Undertaker after taking him to the limit in the unique setting of the Boneyard. With Styles getting older, he won’t always be the in ring expert that people have come to love, and adding more character based elements to him would help to extend his career. They are instead going with an angle where AJ Styles is a relentless heel who won’t be put down and will stop at nothing to win matches, even threatening to throw someone off the roof of WWE HQ. It is more vicious than we have seen him act previously, which is at least a small change.

Should WWE have made some more drastic changes to the character of AJ Styles following the Boneyard Match? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
