WWE Money In The Bank 2020 is soon at hand folks. We’ve got what promises to be an extremely weird show coming up this evening. In keeping with this we have what has to be the most random PPV match WWE have booked in quite some time. MVP for some reason takes on R-Truth tonight. R-Truth vs. MVP
For the past few months, MVP has been one of the more underrated performers in the WWE. Sure, he got eliminated immediately upon his big return and was defeated the next night in his first match on Raw in nearly a decade. Sure he’s continued to lose every sporadic match he’s had ever since then and the likes of Edge and Drew McIntyre absolutely decimated him in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania. And sure, none of the big names he’s come to offering his managerial services have ever even really seriously considered the offer. But MVP came here to put other people over and he’s done so very well in my book.
He did everything in his power to make sure it felt like Apollo Crews was beating somebody when he beat him to initially qualify for Money In The Bank a few weeks ago. He played a fantastic foil to the aforementioned Drew McIntyre and Edge, even as a guy who was merely there to get beaten up and humiliated. He’s proven very adept at his role. Moreover, he serves as a very, very rare example of a performer from the past generation who is portrayed as inferior to the current one. WWE could DESPERATELY use more of that energy right now. It’s always the other way around in this company and it’s done a lot of damage.
All that said, R-Truth really isn’t one of the guys he needs to be making look good. Generally speaking Truth is one of few on the roster who can perfectly maintain his position and popularity without ever winning a match. Really people just wanna see him pop up randomly and cut quirky promos. And while I’ve loved seeing MVP in this JTTS role of late, he does need to get wins occasionally for his losses to continue mattering. So for once I’m gonna say MVP over.
