Despite having been in WWE for over ten years, very rarely has Tamina been viewed as a serious threat in the Women’s Division. This is despite being the daughter of the controversial WWE Hall Of Famer, Jimmy ‘Superfly’ Snuka, and being one of the most physically imposing parts of the division. She has had brief moments of shine as part of groups like Team B.A.D, or her tag team with Nia Jax; but she has never looked better than her recent run on Smackdown Live.
Since Wrestlemania 36 when she was involved in the 5 way elimination match for the Smackdown Women’s Championship, and needed to be hit with everyone’s finishers to be eliminated, she has been on the rise. She would be thrust into an extended feud with the champion Bayley & her best friend Sasha Banks, and this was her moment to shine.
Tamina The Angerholic Won Over Fans
Despite displaying charisma akin to a wet paper bag throughout most of her career, one quick Twitter promo would win over fans. In it, Tamina would speak on her anger issues. Her main character trait over the bulk of her career was that she was big and angry. This promo showed her trying to work on being nicer, complete with some clip art to brighten the mood. It showed more character than ever, and that was all some fans needed to get behind Tamina on the build to the match with Bayley, which showed her potential.
Having The Best Match Of Her Career
While it was not a five star classic, her match last night with Bayley at Money In The Bank was the best that Tamina ever looked. She looked to be on the same level as the longest reigning Smackdown Women’s Champion, and nearly won the match, only stopped from victory after a super kick due to Sasha Banks running interference. Bayley would roll her up with a lucky Crucifix pin-fall after countering a Samoa Drop. This excellent performance was likely due to Bayley being one of the best in the division, but this match has made Tamina into someone worthy of respect on the roster.
She might never have a match this good again, or this could finally be her time to shine. Gone could be the time when people viewed her as only having a job due to her role on Total Divas.
