CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers here with day two’s throwback spoilers for the Winters Family theme week, and this one brings back an old favorite, Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore). In this episode from May 6, 1994, we get to enjoy Malcolm make his Y&R debut as he seeks to reconcile with his half-brother Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John).
As we’re all aware, this is going to be a bumpy road as the two figure out how to co-exist in Genoa City and deal with various betrayals. Basically, typical daytime television.
What’s really cool about this is new fans that may have missed Malcolm’s antics before or just caught the tail end will get to see his introduction with one of the show’s iconic characters and performers in Kristoff St. John’s Neil.

An inauspicious beginning
New characters, whether they’re family members of old friends, arriving on the scene is typical as it’s the easiest way to introduce someone new for the show and an established character. They add depth and story opportunities, as well as simply proving to be fun characters we love seeing whether or not they cause some mayhem.
While Malcolm definitely causes mayhem during his time in Genoa City, he’s not well received at first. Neil isn’t convinced his brother’s intentions are to repair their relationship, and it takes some convincing for him to take the leap of faith, but once he does Malcolm’s practically a Made Man as a character and actor.
This often signals that fans have enjoyed the character and we’ll be seeing more of them. In this case, more led to a new character and a controversial storyline by today’s standards.
Malcolm rapes Drucilla
This is something CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers has never been a fan of, and it shows the mentality that’s slowly changed on daytime television, as well as society, over the years. There was a time when rape was used by some shows to further a relationship between characters or bring them together as a power couple.
Thankfully, those times are (mostly) in the past and many shows have dealt with it as it should be: it’s a crime.
In this case, Malcolm raped his brother’s wife, Drucilla Winters (Victoria Rowell), while she was under the influence of cold medication and believed he was her husband. The result was her becoming pregnant and she eventually gave birth to a daughter, Lily Winters (Christel Khalil, since 2002). They decided to keep their “affair” and parentage of Lily secret.
The methodology behind this will be questioned by many as it’s a hot topic debate, but CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers ae grateful it’s not used as a plot device to further the rise of the “hunks” on the show. It appears some have learned over the last few years.
