WWE Backlash 2020 continues. Braun Strowman’s handicap match Universal title defense is up next as he takes on the Miz and John Morrison. The heels come out first and have mics. Miz says before they become champions, he needs a little something more to pump him up. Morrison says they should share something a little extra special with everyone here and everyone watching at home… the PPV debut of their hit single “HEY! Hey Hey”. It seems to actually be playing this week and it’s in a very bad faux VHS quality. It’s of course a song based around how Braun Strowman has to be defeated. We get a good way into the song this time but again Strowman cuts him off, this time with a weird train graphic.
WWE Universal Championship: Braun Strowman (c) vs. John Morrison & The Miz
Morrison starts with Braun, Miz attacks from behind which lets Morrison take over for a bit, he uses his speed to avoid any damage and tags in Miz. Miz hesitates to enter, goes down to the floor and goes around the ring to draw his attention. Morrison comes from behind, Braun was ready for him but it does help Miz attack him, double team dropkick sends him staggering! Morrison tagged in at some point there, from the apron with a WWE Headkick, tries to fly off but Braun grabs him by the throat and yanks him to the mat! Big uppercut, Miz tags in but again doesn’t wanna come in there quick. Hot Shot to Strowman as he advances, gets him with a few shots, big boot barely catches his face and Strowman stares him down…
Miz wants a tag but Morrison’s still down. Big boot sends Miz into the corner, and then he throws him into Morrison! Miz makes him chase him around ringside, double team sends him to the floor, Miz with a baseball slide, tope from Morrison wipes Strowman out! Braun sent back into the ring, Miz with a roundhouse kick to the head, cover but Braun immediately tosses him out! Headlock from Miz, Strowman powers him up and sends him into the corner but Morrison tags in, snap kicks aplenty, tag to Miz, double Short DDT for a nearfall! The constant assault slowly wearing him down is actually pretty cool to see, executed well. Miz with the It Kicks now, shots to the chest. But now they’re starting the HEY! Hey Hey Ho Ho, and Strowman with a massive chop to the chest! Knocks Morrison off the apron, biel to Miz, Braun charges, Morrison tags in at the last second and Strowman goes shoulder-first into the post!
Morrison with a couple of Flying Chucks, the second one drops him, charging driving knee doesn’t really make contact but Strowman sells it anyway. Miz tags in, Double Axe Handle off the top! Miz hooks the arms, Morrison tags in, Skull Crushing Finale/Missile Dropkick combo and Morrison lands on Strowman as well! He covers, but Miz pulls him off of Braun! They stare down and Miz decides this was a bad idea, lets him pin again but Strowman kicks out! He takes Miz out of the ring, Running Powerslam to Morrison and there’s the match!
Winner: Braun Strowman
That was actually kinda neat. Strowman was impervious to start with but you saw him get worn down through the endless barrage of attacks from the two men and it seemed like it actually could’ve cost him again if they had stayed on the same page. Also they limited it to the one dissension spot which I appreciate, that would’ve been annoying if it was the whole match but it worked in that moment.
