WWE Monday Night Raw commences. Randy Orton emerges to open the show. As he comes out the commentators discuss Edge’s triceps tear and we get a grizzly image of his surgery. Orton gets the mic and says last night at Backlash he did exactly what he planned on doing. He defeated Edge, humiliated him, wrote the final chapter of his story and he gave him closure. He knew in January when he saw Edge make his compelling return to the ring at the Royal Rumble, he knew that he’d never be the competitor he was back in the day. Says he could help him and all he needed to do was trust him but Edge was stubborn. Orton says he was not the last man standing at WrestleMania but he is standing here now, victorious in the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever which makes him the greatest wrestler ever.
But he does want to thank Edge for reigniting the fire in his gut, the kind of burning that only comes at the expense of other legends. He reminded him of what it felt like to be a Legend Killer. He says he knows why Edge is not here and it’s not just because he nearly kicked his head off with that Punt Kick, it’s because he tore his tricep clean off the bone. Says he sent him home to be a husband and father to his daughters. He knows why he’s not here, he’s in some Godforsaken hospital while a team of doctors try and surgically attach that muscle to the bone. He believes that Edge will be cleared in July… of 2029.
Now Christian is interrupting him! He comes down to the ring with a mic and asks what kind of man Orton is? According to him, he’s the greatest wrestler ever, a Legend Killer. What he sees, he’s cold, calculated and a son of a bitch. You think the redemption of Edge is over? You’re wrong. Says he’s known Edge his entire life, he doesn’t quite. Says Randy doesn’t get a say in how this story ends, when the time comes, he’ll have his closure on his terms. He’s coming back. Orton says he can’t believe he came down here, the story is not about Christian, it’s never been about him and never will be. He’s jealous of his friend Edge, but he sees that look in his eye. He knows that look, he knows what he wants… One More Match.
Christian says absolutely not, he’s out here to defend his friend. Orton says please, you and Edge, you’re both the same, you can’t accept that something he loves was taken away before he was ready. He knows Christian isn’t medically cleared but he’s got a way around that. Tonight… Christian vs. Orton… Unsanctioned. He starts to turn away, leaving Christian baffled. Orton stops short and says the offer expires by the end of the night and if he doesn’t accept, it’ll confirm that he’s a coward. Orton makes his leave.
I… really? Wow.
