We’ve been teased for week with recently released WWE stars returning to Impact Wrestling, and we received a clue during last night’s Impact (June 16) who that’ll be. If we’re right, we may see EC3 face Moose at Slammiversary for the TNA World Championship.
Given how Moose has been trying to make the TNA Championship legitimate after “stealing” the belt, this could go a long way in doing that. EC3 is practically a revered name to Impact fans, as we were sad to se him go, but hopeful the WWE would do something awesome with him. When they failed and he was released, a majority of us expected him to come back, and now it appears he will and hit the ground running.

Another twist
Not that we really need another one besides EC3’s music playing, but after the show there was another Slammiversary promo that said at least one former world champion would be returning. While it’s pretty obvious they mean EC3, another possibility is Eric Young. While Young had a good thing going at WWE as a producer, there’s something to be said about going home again. Especially when there’s the chance to help rebuild the promotion and lift it back to where it was previously.
But there’s more to it than those as the promotional video also has some interesting imagery to tease us about who is returning. The video starts with one glass the man in the hoodie is drinking, but ends with three.

We can assume the hooded man is the big name returning, perhaps in a managerial or leadership role. This could mean anything, but the promo flashed four faces — EC3, Sting, Kurt Angle, and Eric Young.
We all know Angle, Young, and EC3 were released by the WWE, and Sting’s contract recently came to an end, so there’s the possibility that we could see all four of them return, which would explain the thre additional glasses at the end of the promo.
So, that leaves the question as to who is in the hoodie.
The hooded man
Given the four images and glasses, it’s our best guess that the hooded man is Sting. It’s in the vein of his Crow persona he adopted in the late 1990s in WCW when he stayed in the rafters and watched the nWo. And since he can’t wrestle, it makes sense that he could be the one behind the scenes, possibly building a new stable of returning talent.
As for Kurt Angle, he may have retired from in-ring competition, but he’d also be a positive addition to the locker room even in a limited capacity. He would be perfect as a manager, drawing heat regularly as a heel, and adulation as a face. Given his past experiences where he said in 2014 he was snubbed by the WWE but treated well by Impact, it’d make sense if he returned to help push other talent in an Arn Anderson type of role.
Overall, it looks like Impact Wrestling is on the verge of building a powerful roster. Wonder what other surprises are in store for us?
