Over the last couple of weeks, WWE Raw has been decent but with a few angles wrestling fans will recognize from other promotions. Like any sport, it’s a copycat “league” so it’s not surprising that WWE Creative would borrow an idea from another source
It is surprising that they did so from Impact Wrestling.
Impact Wrestling influence
In Impact, Moose found and adopted the old TNA World Championship and has claimed himself to be the true champion while the Impact World Championship is now held by Eddie Edwards.
Going back a couple of weeks on Raw, a new United States Championship belt was unveiled by MVP. While it was stated to be the official new belt, it’s also been said online that MVP had it made. Meaning he “found” his new belt.
He took it a step further at Extreme Rules by saying that Apollo Crews forfeited their match for the United States Championship, so he won by default and had Bobby Lashley put the belt around his waist.
This is where the similarities end for the moment, though Impact Wrestling is heading toward a merging of championships or something along those lines.
Apollo Crews injury
It was announced yesterday that Apollo Crews failed his pre-match physical so he couldn’t perform. The official word is he suffered a bulging disk in his back from Lashley’s full nelson on June 29th’s episode of WWE Raw.
So, her went from being unable to perform to forfeiting and MVP “stole” the new belt he allegedly had made.
Aside from the severe lack of credible storytelling of having anyone there in an official capacity to unveil a new design, this is quickly turning into one of the true questionable angles on the show (Impact is doing it better).
With that being said, we’re most likely going to see Crews tonight barring an unforeseen situations arise. We may even get a match between him and Bobby Lashley, since MVP considers himself the champion Crews will have to prove himself worthy.
We’re hoping this isn’t the way it’s going to go, but after the theme of title thefts at Extreme Rules and the way this is heading, it seems likely.
Of course, all of these issues may lead to a new commissioner role before too long, which would be a shame since that, a general manager, or sheriff have been a constant storyline for twenty years.
This could be an interesting WWE Raw segment for all the wrong reasons. What are your thoughts?
