It’s been a few weeks since we last saw Apollo Crews on WWE Raw, and we’re expecting him back any week now.
While his absence has been attributed to an injury he sustained against Bobby Lashley, it’s been rumored that he tested positive for COVID-19.
We wish him the best and hope he’s feeling better.
Filling in
While Crews has been out, MVP unveiled a new United States Championship belt (unpopular opinion: it pales compared to the old design) and took it as his own championship.
To fill in for Crews, Ricochet and Cedric Alexander continued to face off with the Hurt Business (MVP, Lashley, and Shelton Benjamin).
The last two weeks, Mustafa Ali joined their side and they stole a six man tag team match before Ali was beaten by Lashley on las week’s WWE Raw.
While the matches have been entertaining, aside for the tag match, the Hurt Business has dominated the feud because of Lashley’s size and strength.
If Crews can come back, he’ll give them someone that can match up with Lashley even if they’re not quite on equal footing.
Taking back the US title
If Crews can and does come back, we expect him to build his feud with MVP toward a US Championship match at SummerSlam.
While that should end the debate, we’ll have to hear MVP croon on about being the champion for the next couple of weeks. By the way, didn’t he retire from in ring activity a few months back? Still love the guy, but just saying.
It should be a pretty good matchup, though we feel a gimmick of some sort will be involved like a gauntlet match or elimination tag match to determine the United States Championship.
On a slightly different note, we have to admit that we’re curious why the feud hasn’t been between Lashley and Crews for the United States Championship.
It just feels wrong that Lashley went from challenging for the WWE championship to being a lackey for a pseudochampion.
It almost feels like people are just being thrown into this to see how it works out, and that brings us to the thought of what will happen if Crews doesn’t return for another week or two.
Ricochet and Alexander have been fun, and Ali’s addition to their group only added a new layer of excitement, but it begs the question as to where they’ll go from here?
Ali’s a great talent and the case can be made for him deserving a chance at the US title, if MVP had the real belt.
The same can be said for Ricochet and Alexander, but all three seem to be there just to fill spots for the time being when they can do so much more. In our opinion, anyway.
Still, there’s always a chance something will develop and an opportunity will open up for them.
In the meantime, we get to enjoy some fun moments thanks to the trio’s athleticism.
