Adam Cole is set for his oddest NXT opponent yet in Pat McAfee. This is a new direction for the man who spent over a year as NXT Champion, and shows that much like Johnny Gargano, this shows that Cole & the rest of The Undisputed Era will remain a focal point of the show. Even when they’re not draped in gold, they’re the most dangerous faction around, hell without gold they’re hungrier and arguably more dangerous than ever.
During an interview with TVInsider about his upcoming match with McAfee, he’d be asked if there are any plans to move on to RAW & Smackdown. Adam Cole would shoot that down, saying that NXT is still his home for now.
In No Rush To Leave NXT
After mentioning in the interview how he’d love to be the third ever two-time NXT Champion (after Shinsuke Nakamura & Samoa Joe), he’d be asked if bigger plans like a move of RAW or Smackdown is something he’s considering. And while he’d admit he’d be lying if he said he didn’t want to go there eventually, but now is not the time.
“ I feel like NXT is really blossoming into something special. Selfishly, I don’t want to miss out on that. I’m really enjoying my time here and feel there is more for me to do. I feel like there is more for the Undisputed Era to do. As a group, we have been a dominant force in NXT. I’m in no rush to leave NXT. At the same time do I think the Undisputed Era would be effective on Raw and SmackDown? Absolutely.”
Men like Adam Cole, Johnny Gargano and more are the pillars that NXT is being built around as it moves forward. They’re building up new stars to take their spots, but it’s nice to have familiar faces for fans to look forward to seeing.
What Is There Left For Adam Cole To Do?
Aside from going after the NXT Championship again, and maybe facing NXT UK Champion WALTER as revenge for Worlds Collide, there isn’t much left for Undisputed Era and Adam Cole together. However, he’s been allies with perhaps his greatest rival for years now. Cole & Kyle O’Reilly are good partners, but much better rivals, with their matches in PWG & ROH being some of the hardest hitting matches around.
A power struggle storyline within Undisputed Era in general is something fans have wanted to see for years. While Roderick Strong is often cited by fans as who they would want to take the group over, he lacks the charisma of someone like Cole. This is something Kyle O’Reilly has to spare, perhaps even more so than Cole.
