Ever since she made her big return at the Royal Rumble earlier this year, fans have been as high as ever on Naomi. This return went viral on Twitter, and got Naomi a ton of new fans, fans who were let down when nothing came from this. She’s popped in on Smackdown a few times, mainly in a low stakes feud with Lacey Evans.
With WWE finally listening to fans about their collective dislike of Roman Reigns, will Naomi finally get a sustained push?
Naomi Is A Two-Time Women’s Champion, But They Were Underwhelming Reigns
Back in 2017, Naomi would win the Smackdown Women’s Championship twice. The first reign was only nine days long, having defeated Alexa Bliss at Elimination Chamber, but she’d have to vacate due to injury. Bliss would win the title back on Smackdown, defeating Becky Lynch, but come Wrestlemania 33? Naomi would reclaim the championship in a Six Pack Challenge, beating Bliss, Lynch, Natayla, Carmella, and Mickie James.
This second reign would last a much greater 140 days, but most of her defenses would be against Lana in underwhelming matches, before losing to Natalya at Summerslam. She didn’t get focus as Smackdown’s Women’s Champion, and has only gotten sparse championship matches since then.
Fans Want Her To End Bayley’s Reign
On the August 21st episode of Smackdown Live, Naomi would defeat Bayley in a Beat The Clock challenge in just 2 minutes and 34 second. This is a rare loss for Bayley this year, who has been one of the most dominant forces in all of WWE. With the focus for Bayley likely being a huge feud with her best friend Sasha Banks, many feel that feud doesn’t need a championship.
With Naomi having beaten Bayley recently, she is deserving of a title match. Fans have already been cross with WWE due to the treatment of Naomi as an afterthought, and a loss will only increase this. There are many ways to get to Bayley vs. Banks without the championship involved, so why not spread the spotlight?
Is Naomi ready to be Smackdown Women’s Champion for the third time? Should WWE keep listening to their fans and give Naomi a chance? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
