WWE Smackdown Results returned as they promoted AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy facing each other next for the Intercontinental Championship, then switched to Sami Zayn in the production truck yelling at the techs.
He wasn’t happy about the Intercontinental Championship logo and after losing his stuff, he pressed a few buttons and threw a switch, sending us to commercial.
Intercontinental Championship – Jeff Hardy (c) vs. AJ Styles
Sami Zayn came out right when the match was about to start claiming the match wasn’t for the title because he’s the Intercontinental Championship.
He asked if he has to keep saying it and then listed his victories before he took his leave.
He then claimed since he’s back, this is ann exhibition match.
Adam Pearce came out, but when Zayn asked him to clear it up, he told Zayn they’re there to get him out of there.
While Zayn was leaving, Styles hit with a cheap shot (forearm to the neck) while Jeff was watching the show, then landed a few kicks.
When the bell rang, Jeff ducked and Styles hit the corner with a splash and Jeff hit with a Twist of Fate, but Styles rolled out of the way of a senton bomb as we headed to commercial.
Styles nears the finish
We came back with Styles in control and both men on the floor, where Styles hit a couple of stomps before he broke the count and rolled back out for some more stomps.
This time, Styles remained in the ring until it looked like Jeff wouldn’t get back in, but Jeff bounced Styles off the ring steps, then hit with a double knee off the steps.
Jeff hit the barricade with his back, but threw Styles into the ring and hit with a shoulder block, inverted atomic drop, and double leg drop that Styles countered by catching Jeff’s legs and pushing them away.
Jeff counter a charge with a reverse elbow, then hit with a Whisper of the Wind for a near pinfall.
Jeff was on his feet first, but Styles slipped out of a Twist of Fate and hit a spinning neckbreaker on his knee for a near pinfall and regained control of the match,.
Jeff countered the Styles Clash and hit with a double leg drop and basement dropkick for a near pinfall.
Styles grabbed Jeff’s injured left leg and hit his knee with a couple of elbows, but Jeff knocked him back and missed with a slingshot bomb off the top rope.
Styles was setting up for the Phenomenal Forearm but Zayn pulled hi off the apron and threw Styles into the ring steps, then his Jeff with a Halua Kick on Jeff Hardy.
Zayne then ran off with his Intercontinental Championship belt claiming there’s only one.
After the match, it was announced that Reigns and Jey will face Corbin and Sheamus later tonight.
But most concerning while Jeff was leaving, he collapsed on the ramp in pain as the commercial began.
WWE Smackdown Results thought this was a pretty good match even if the outcome was predictable.
Update on Jeff
When we came back from commercial, they replayed Jeff’s collapse and Alyse Ashton was backstage at the trainer’s room
She said Jeff didn’t lose consciousness, but he seems to be suffering from dehydration.
Anyone want to bet they’re going to say Jeff’s taking something again?
Styles came up to her upset over Sami Zayn and although Jeff cheated, he’s the champion.
He added that he can beat Sami Zayn and Jeff Hardy, so I guess it’ll be a match at Clash of Champions.
Oh, he also declared himself the true Intercontinental Champion. WWE Smackdown Results thinks this will get interesting
