With the next NXT Takeover event fast approaching, we need contenders for championships, and two of those will be decided tonight on NXT. By the end of the night we will know who Finn Balor will defend the NXT Championship against, and who Io Shirai will defend the NXT Women’s Championship against, both in wildly different matches.

The First Ever Gauntlet Eliminator Match

Whoever challenges Finn Balor for the NXT Championship at Takeover, will need to win the first ever Gauntlet Eliminator match to get there. It’s a twist on the typical Gauntlet Match, in that it’s not a series of one on one matches, but more similar to the Elimination Chamber or Lucha Underground’ Aztec Warfare match. Two men start, and three more will come in after timed intervals, and the last man standing wins.

The best part of this match are the challengers, with it potentially being each man’s PPV main event debut in singles matches. KUSHIDA, Kyle O’Reilly, Bronson Reed, Timothy Thatcher and Cameron Grimes are all men who can deliver on big matches, and will be in there with one of the best in the world in Finn Balor. This is a huge match, will give someone a big chance, and is almost too close to call. Cameron Grimes or Reed almost feels like the best choice here, as Thatcher just lost to Balor, KUSHIDA is feuding with Velveteen Dream, and O’Reilly seems to have a date with Tommaso Ciampa.

An Over-The-Top Battle Royale A Shot At Io Shirai

With the insane depth of the NXT Women’s Division, there are countless viable contenders for the NXT Women’s Championship. Io Shirai can have a good match with just about anyone, and names like Candice LeRae, Shotzi Blackheart, Tegan Nox, Rhea Ripley, Dakota Kai, Raquel Gonzalez, and more will all meet in a standard over the top rope battle royal. This is a simple way to name a contender for the championship, and could boost someone to the status of superstar with one win and a strong showing against Shirai.

Also announced is Tommaso Ciampa vs. Jake Atlas, where Atlas looks to get revenge for being brutalized by Ciampa weeks ago. With this being NXT, we can expect some other matches to be thrown in to pad out the runtime of the show, or some video packages. What match are you most looking forward to from NXT tonight? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
