Hello and welcome to WWE Smackdown Results! It looks like we have an interesting night ahead of us as the WWE closes in on Clash of Champions: Gold Rush.
We don’t want to hold up the fun, so let’s get it started.
Nothing like getting the party started right.
AJ Styles, Sami Zayn, and Jeff Hardy got things rolling by coming out for the Intercontinental Championship Ascension Ceremony, whatever that is.
It’s important to not that Jeff Hardy was introduced as the intercontinental Chamionpion to Zayn’s dismay, and climbed a ladder for his entrance.
Him waving down at Styles and Zayn was a perfect touch.
Corey Graves started it off by saying since all of them claimed to be the Intercontinental Champion, so their match will be for the undisputed (unified) champion.
The ascension ceremony is having both Intercontinental title belts being lifted and placed above the ring.
Styles told Jeff that this will be the last time he holds the championship since he cheated him out of it.
He then turned his attention to Zayn and asked why he’s here after taking the summer off.
Styles then pointed out that he busted his hump to make the Intercontinental Championship mean something, and added as a final shot about how he beat Zayn last week.
Zayn countered that this whole thing wouldn’t be necessary if Styles hadn’t partaken in tha sham of an Intercontinental championship tournament.
Zayn continued down the line about how Jeff should’ve thrown it away when he won it, and now Zayn has to defend his title in a ladder match.
Unlikely bonding
Just as he was about to go on about how dangerous a ladder match is, Jeff told him to shut up and said he agrees with Styles, much to his chagrin.
Jeff added that unlike Zayn, he and Styles had to defend the belt each week with honor.
The bickering continued as they attached their belts to the holder, and the belts were lifted above the ring.
As Styles and Jeff jawed back and forth, Zayn slipped out of the ring and shoved a ladder over onto them from the ring apron.
He then jumped on Jeff and pounded on him, proclaiming him to be a fraud.
Styles chased Zayn out of the ring, but Zayn was stopped by Pearce, who added Styles to his and Jeff’s match and it’s next.
In the ring, Jeff hit a Twist of Fate on Styles as we headed to commercial. WWE Smackdown Results really should be used to the WWE findin ways for gimmick matches by now.
