After putting Velveteen Dream on the shelf after a bitter and stiff grudge match at NXT Takeover 31, it would have been fine if KUSHIDA wanted to take a week off. However, he’s pushing forward and has his eyes on another wrong-doer in NXT, that being ‘The Psycho Killer’ Tommaso Ciampa. These are perhaps the two most intense wrestlers in NXT right now, and this match is gonna leave both sore in the morning. Ember Moon was originally going to kick off the show, but after William Regal had to pull these two apart backstage, they started the show instead.
Picking Up Where They Left Off Backstage
KUSHIDA would get this one started with a slap to the face, before wrestling Ciampa to the mat. This was KUSHIDA’s world, and he’d be all over Ciampa, even when they got back to their feet as he hit the hip toss into dropkick, before going for a big armbreaker.
Ciampa got back into it with a hard forearm to the face, before countering the handspring elbow with a low dropkick to the face. He’d apply a headlock, moving it up into a neckbreaker to KUSHIDA. Pressing his advantage, he’d slow the pace down and throw hard strikes KUSHIDA’s way,
This would simply fire KUSHIDA up, who came back with some strikes of his own before being thrown hard into the corner, getting grounded once again. He’d be neutralized, and Ciampa looked to grind him down with a tight headlock.
KUSHIDA would get back to his feet and counter the neckbreaker attempt. He’d go after the left wrist, but Ciampa fought him off and set up Willows Bell; before slipping to the outside. Ciampa came after him, but ended up getting kicked in the face as we went to a commercial break.
KUSHIDA & Tomassao Ciampa Give A Takeover Worthy Match
Back from the commercial break, Ciampa was back in control, and had him set up top for the Air Raid siren. KUSHIDA fought him off, only to be chopped off. Ciampa had eyes on the announce table, and that would allow KUSHIDA to punish the arm and that put him back on top. He’d look to stomp the head of Ciampa in, but it was dodged and he almost got a Fairytale Ending.
KUSHIDA would fight out and do everything to get into the cross armbreaker, moving into a triangle choke. Ciampa would lift him up for a powerbomb, breaking the hold. This caused a double down, and they’d enter a slugfest when back up. Ciampa won this after a big boot to the face, and nailing a Fisherman Suplex. This only got a near fall, but the Fairytale Ending out have done it, had it not been countered.
KUSHIDA would nail a big right hand to the face, and grab the arms to stomp on the neck of Ciampa. He’d apply the Hoverboard Lock in the middle of the ring, but Dream was here to break the hold up, dressed like The Undertaker. This one ends in DQ, and clearly he’s not done with KUSHIDA. Ciampa wins via DQ, and this Takeover level match will happen again down the line. It was a great one until the end, but it was a match neither man could lose just yet.
