After a week off, 205 Live is back and now in the Capitol Wrestling Center at the WWE Performance, home of NXT. At NXT Takeover 31, Swerve failed to win the NXT Cruiserweight Championship from Santos Escobar, so now we need a new top contender, making every match in the division important.
Jake Atlas & Ariya Daivari kick off tonight, and both would love the next shot. Two months ago, Daivari used a thumb to the eye and Hammerlock Lariat to drop Atlas, would history repeat?
A Nasty Fight From The Start
Daivari got a few jabs in on Atlas earlier, but this fired up Atlas who asked for Daivari to hit him again, before dodging and pummeling the 205 Live original. Atlas had the power advantage, and would take this brawl of a match to the outside, throwing Daivari around. A chop to the throat from Daivari and a neckbreaker in the ropes gave Daivari back control.
Atlas would try to regain some ground after popping out Daivari in the corner, only to be caught with a kick to the arm, and ending up right back under Daivari. The pace would be slowed down briefly, before Atlas broke free and threw some more strikes.
Daivari would use his speed to slip behind Atlas and hit a dropkick before the reverse DDT. Atlas was getting desperate as the match trended away from him, getting a bit of momentum before being dropped on his head with a DDT. He’d grab a crucifix pin, and then be stopped with a lariat.
Ariya Daivari Gets Some Outside Help
Atlas would fight to get back to his feet, but Daivari wouldn’t let him do this easily. He’d get up and be whipped into the corner, coming back with a big elbow. Daivari would take a big back body drop, a german suplex and a pump kick in the corner, getting a two count. A knee to the head and a rollup would get another near fall for Atlas, before Daivari managed to nail a neckbreaker.
Daivari went up top for a frog splash, getting a two count after a perfect landing. He’d set up a Hammerlock Lariat, but Atlas saved himself and hit a pump kick. Daivari went to the outside, Atlas went for the dive, and Daivari thought he had scouted before Atlas changed directions and hit the dive.
Atlas threw Daivari back in, but as he came in himself, a knee from Tony Nese turned his lights out. This one ends in a DQ. Daivari hit a Hammerlock Lariat to put an exclamation mark on this one, and this was a win for the 205 Live originals in the end.
